About Tree17

Started by a local Walthamstow Graphic Designer as a creative outlet away from the screen, he started making relief prints from reclaimed materials as a way to exercise his skills and get his hands dirty.

The prints are currently only available on this website, selected online retailers and at local events in Walthamstow.

FAQs

I do indeed. When a tree has to be felled, sometimes that tree is part of the family. What better way to preserve those memories for the whole family than with a set of prints made directly from the tree.

Contact me here to find out more.

The prints are made from trees that have been felled by the local authority as they are deemed unsafe, or have blown down in the wind.

If I manage to salvage one or two interesting looking pieces, they are left to dry and then cut into slices.

The slices then undergo a lot of preparation to make them perfectly smooth before raising the grain.

Test prints are made with surplus paper, the ink gets mixed, and the editions get printed by hand.

  • All materials are as locally as sourced as possible.
  • All inks are solvent free and non toxic (specifics can be found in the edition details).
  • Papers are chosen on their environmental credentials and how they suit the detail of the tree rings (specifics can be found in the edition details).
  • Materials are generally purchased locally by bicycle from Jackson’s Art in Dalston / Stoke Newington.
  • If you live in Walthamstow (E17) and the surrounding areas up to 3 miles the print will be delivered by the artist on his bicycle. If you are further afield then Royal Mail will be used.
  • Packaging will be plastic free and use paper tape purchased from ecomersh.co.uk.
  • The minimal amount of waste materials are composted and recycled.
  • Log transport is by bicycle and foot.
  • All test prints are made on scrap and reused paper before moving to the chosen paper for the edition.
A local Walthamstow Graphic Designer who’s lived in the area for nearly 10 years. In exploring ways to spend less time sitting at a computer he started making relief prints as a way to exercise his skills away from the screen.

Every effort is made to accurately photograph the final product to capture the detail, paper and colour.

Variations such as screen brightness, device type and your environment, may cause the colours to display slightly differently.

Most colours are mixed at the time of printing so are completely unique to that moment. Although, colours can be matched by commission.

Currently the prints are only sold online and at local craft markets. If you are interested in stocking them, contact me here.

  • Within E17 and the surrounding 3 miles the prints will be hand delivered by the artist on a bicycle.
  • If you’re further afield Royal Mail Signed For will be used.
  • Specific costs can be found in the edition information.
